ARRELS D’ARREU
A peek at our grandparents’ generation – their music, how they do things, their knowing that the differences are not so great – some ways may have changed but the underlying wishes and desires remain almost the same. So, following the traditional Japanese kintsugi technique, we hope to convert this rift or wound between the two generations into a beautiful, precious scar, spotlighting it in gold. The performance stages anecdotes and everyday experiences that are small, personal and untransferable, until we see that the treasure is within reach, inside us, within our family tree, and that identity surfaces when we weave together the awareness of those from the past with ourselves and those to come. This performance pays homage to certain people, grandparents who are no longer here but also grandparents with whom we can still spend an afternoon or long hours chatting and asking questions. Most of all, it pays homage to ourselves, each and every one of us, in the awareness that we have ROOTS FROM EVERYWHERE, those who have travelled here, those who had to leave to earn a living in other lands, and that we are also the seed of what our grandchildren will say about us.
